An excellent year with few surprises along the way, making it a stark contrast to '10 and '11. Slightly below average winter rainfall, coupled with a nice cool start to spring, with only a few isolated frosts in some vineyards. The summer was warm, with a few heat spikes that concentrated fruit and impacted crop loads slightly in some vineyards. Harvest began slightly early but proceeded at a good pace, allowing us to be patient with picking. Yields were average to slightly below average, the resulting wines showing luscious textures and aromatic personality. Much more powerful and richly textured compared to the more elegant and savory 2011 wines.
