The first in a series of cool years (2009-2011), following a string of warm, dry years. 2009 was actually quite welcome following the warm, dry vintage of 2008. Spring was frosty for some vineyards, although our sites escaped mostly unscathed, thankfully. Summer was mild and long, warm at times, but rarely hot. Ripening progressed slowly and evenly, allowing for great balance and nicely ripe flavors given the cooler year. A massive rainstorm brought the vintage to a screeching halt in mid-October, but thankfully we had finished picking just one day before! The wines are rich and round, with some of my favorite textures to date. 2009 will age very well.
