2002 began with a wonderful start, with below average rainfall which set the vines off to a smaller crop. Spring was cool, but quickly elevated to very warm temperatures through most of summer, putting added stress on the vines and making the fruit extremely concentrated. As autumn approached we saw more moderate temperatures, which helped bring relief to the stressed vines and allow harvest to proceed at a moderate pace. The resultant wine was flashy and ripe in its youth, with nice acidity, but will peak sooner than other vintages.
